Parking on campus

Weeknight parking (Monday-Thursday 5pm-7am)

You can get a free weeknight parking permit through the student fees that get paid for us. A weeknight parking permit allows you to park in specified weeknight parking lots from 5pm until 7:00am the next day. Nearby lots are Bell Tower deck, Venable Hall lot, Beard Hall lot, McCauley deck, and Nash lot.

Limitations: during football games all lots on campus are restricted, during basketball games Bell Tower deck is restricted though the Nash lot is not, and during special events some of these parking options could be restricted.

Weekend parking (Friday after 5pm to Monday 7am)

Parking on the weekends is free (though it may not be free in metered or visitor lots). This isn’t true if there is a sports or other event on campus.

Parking in Chapel Hill

The Town of Chapel Hill operates on street parking, parking lots, and parking decks. You have to pay to park in on street parking from 8am-6pm and off street parking (lots and decks) from 8am-8pm Monday-Saturday. Parking is free on Sundays and during July and December on Saturdays. Parking is also free on town holidays. During big events parking may not be free on Sundays and the parking fee may be higher.

Parking in Carrboro

Parking in the public Carrboro lots is free. There is a 2 hour limit between 7am-5:30pm and after 5:30pm you can park for as long as you want until the 2 hour limit is in effect again. These are the general parking lot rules, check individual lot hours for more specific parking rules.

Warning about the Carr Mill mall and Weaver Street Market parking lots: do not park here unless you are not walking off their property ever while parked. There are cameras watching for when people walk off property and they tow quickly. If you don’t want to deal with this you can park in the Drakeford Parking Deck next to the library.

Parking near different bars

Drakeford Parking Deck: near Steel String, Weaver Street Market, Orange County Social Club, and Speakeasy

The parking deck next to the Hampton Inn (you can park on the lower levels, the upper levels are reserved for hotel guess): Haw River and Franklin Motors.

502B N. Greensboro St.: Dingo Dog. This lot can be hard to find and is just a gravel parking lot. An alternative parking lot for Dingo Dog is the lot to the right of the building.

Note for anything off Franklin street or on the Chapel Hill side: these bars are often close enough to campus to park on campus. There are a lot of small Town of Chapel Hill lots around the bars but they are not free until after 8pm.
