The annual Darwin Day event was held on February 16, 2013 at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Four UNC Biology labs were represented at the event, helping promote outreach and education on topics of evolution:

  • Burch Lab – Lisa Bono, Kayla Peck, Jacob Stark, Marlena Brokob
  • Kingsolver Lab – Kate Augustine, Heidi MacLean
  • Pfennig Lab – Antonio Serrato, Emily Schmidt
  • Kier Lab – Jessica Kurth

Their booths encompassed topics of virus evolution, caterpillar performance under different temperatures, DNA extraction, and earthworm races. It was estimated that ~4000 visitors came through the museum today, with kids of all ages participating in the activities. There was even a special visit by young (pre-beard) Darwin!
